Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Reduced Fares for Seniors

This program offers discounted fares for Valley Transportation Authority (also called VTA) buses and light rail if you are 65 years of age or older, have a disability, or have Medicare. You can get a reduced fare for single rides as well as day, month, annual, or light rail passes.

In some cases, the senior reduced fare passes are only available if you use a Senior Clipper Card. A Clipper Card is a reloadable fare card.

Persons who have disabilities can get a Regional Transit Connection (also called RTC) Discount Card, a version of the Clipper Card. You can use that card to buy discounted fares for VTA as well as other regional transit systems. You may also be able to use it as proof of disability with transit agencies that don’t accept Clipper Cards. You do not need to be a San Diego resident to get the discount.

How do I apply?

To pay a reduced fare based on your age for a single ride on the bus or light rail, you can pay in cash and present proof of age. To get a Senior Clipper Card, you can print and fill out the application form and submit it according to the directions on the form.

To get an RTC card, you need to apply in person and pay a fee. For the RTC card, you need to show eligibility. For more information, call or visit your local office.
