How can this program help me?

This program may provide you a credit for some of the property tax you have paid on your home if you are a qualifying older adult. You must participate in your county’s Homestead Exemption program to receive this credit. The credit is refundable. The amount of the credit is based on the amount of property taxes paid and the home’s value.

How do I get help?

To get this credit, you must file your state’s income tax return, also referred as the IT-140. In addition, you must file the Department of Revenue’s Senior Citizen Tax Credit Form, referred to as the SCTC-1.

To start the process, contact the state Department of Revenue at: 800-982-8297 or 304-558-3333.
If you need more help, contact your local tax assessor's office.
