South Dakota Assessment Freeze for the Elderly and Disabled
How can this program help me?
This program limits how much your home’s property taxes can increase each year if you are a qualifying older adult. It locks in the assessed (taxable) value of your home. The assessed value is the dollar amount used to decide how much you will have to pay in property taxes. If your home increases in value, you still pay taxes on the starting (lower) value. Property includes your home and the lot it sits on or up to 1 acre of land, whichever is less.
How do I get help?
To apply for this program, visit the program website or call your local tax assessor's office.
