How can this program help me?

The Illinois General Homestead Exemption (GHE) Program gives you a property tax exemption (tax break) to help lower the amount of property tax you pay on your home. This benefit can help lower your property tax bill by exempting (leaving out) part of your home’s assessed value. The assessed value is the dollar amount used to decide how much you will have to pay in taxes. The amount of exemption you can receive depends on where you live in the state.
