The Legal Hotline for Older Iowans, part of Iowa Legal Aid, can provide you with legal help for non-criminal matters. There are several legal areas that you can get help with, including:

  • Consumer Law: Get help with bankruptcy, debt collection, tax issues, and identity theft.
  • Elder Law: Get help creating a living will, which can document your wishes if you have an illness or injury that prevents you from making sound health or financial choices. You can also get information on your rights to long-term care or assisted living.
  • Family Law: Get help with divorce, child support, an order of protection, or grandparent rights.
  • Housing Law: Get help with housing or homeownership issues such as foreclosure, eviction, repairs, and landlord-tenant disagreements.
  • Public Benefits Law: Get help with applying for and recieiving public benefits such as Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare, veteran’s benefits, and unemployment compensation.
