Handitran is a non-emergency medical transportation program that offers older adults access to transportation services via taxi. This public transit program allows riders to schedule rides at least one day in advance, making it convenient for those who need to plan ahead for medical appointments or errands. Handitran accepts a variety of payment methods, including insurance, vouchers, coupons, donations, and Medicaid payments, providing flexibility for older adults in managing their transportation expenses. Riders using Handitran can enjoy the convenience of private rides in cars or vans, with the option of on-demand scheduling for shared rides. The program offers various pricing options, with each one-way trip costing $2.00 and a monthly pass available for frequent riders at $55.00. Additionally, riders can opt for pre-payment or pay by check, credit card, or cash, depending on their preference. Handitran also provides paratransit services, ensuring that older adults with mobility challenges are able to access transportation that meets their needs, including assistance with packages, door-to-door transportation, and service animal accommodations.
