The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) Reduced Fare and Paratransit Services

Learn More About This Program

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (also called DART) is the public transit systems for Des Moines and the surrounding area. It offers bus services and a RideShare program where commuters with similar routes can share vans. There are several programs for older adults and people who have disabilities.

  • Half-Fare Program: If you are an older adult, are a veteran, or have a disability, you can pay reduced fares. Refugees and students can also pay reduced fares. Riders accepted into the Half-Fare Program will receive a Half-Fare Card to pay with cash on the bus or buy passes in the MyDART app.
  • Paratransit Services: Paratransit services are available for older adults and people who have disabilites and cannot use the DART bus services. It is a door-to-door service in a wheelchair-accessible van. In some cases, you may be limited in the types of trips you can take, and you may have to pay a fare.
  • RideShare: Wheelchair-accessible vans are available for commuters taking part in the RideShare program.
