Learn More About This Program

Please make sure to contact Knoxville County Office on Aging: Volunteer Assisted Transportation (VAT) to confirm details of their transportation services.

Volunteer Assisted Transportation (VAT) is a community-based transportation program that offers a convenient and affordable way for older adults to access rides in their local area. VAT relies on donations to provide transportation services to older adults who may have difficulty getting around on their own. Through VAT, older adults can book rides for a reasonable fee of $3.00 for a one-way trip or $6.00 for a round-trip within the county. If traveling out of the county, fares may vary. Riders are required to schedule their trips in advance, usually a few days beforehand, to ensure availability. VAT offers transportation options using both cars and vans, providing flexibility depending on the rider's needs. Payments for the service can be made by cash or check, making it accessible for those who prefer different payment methods. For a reliable and efficient transportation service, consider using VAT's Rides In Advance feature when booking your next trip.
