What is the Montana Disabled Veterans (MDV) Assistance Program?
The Montana Disabled Veterans (MDV) Assistance Program helps disabled veterans or their unmarried surviving spouses by reducing the property tax rate on their home. To qualify, the veteran must have a 100% service-connected disability, as confirmed by a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
The amount of help you get depends on your income and whether you are married. Some people may get their entire property tax bill waived, while others may get a partial reduction. The program offers tax savings of 50%, 70%, 80%, or up to 100% off the regular property tax rate.
The income limits are updated each year for inflation. You can find the current income limits on the Montana Department of Revenue website. Once approved, your exemption will renew automatically each year as long as you still live in the home and continue to meet the program rules.
Am I eligible for the MDV Assistance Program?
To qualify for the Montana Disabled Veterans Assistance Program, you must:

Note: If you are an unmarried surviving spouse, you must also have a VA letter showing that your spouse died in active duty, died from a service-related disability, or was rated 100% disabled at the time of death.
