Tax Help

Massachusetts Circuit Breaker Credit Program

Learn More About This Program

How can this program help me?

If you're an older adult, the Circuit Breaker Tax Credit program can free you from having to pay certain increases in your property taxes. It limits how much your home’s assessed (taxable) value can go up each year. The assessed value is the dollar amount used to decide how much you will have to pay in property taxes. This value can only increase by 2% over the previous year’s tax payment.

How do I get help?

To apply for this program, print and fill out the application form and mail it to your local tax assessor's office. You must file a state income tax return to get the Circuit Breaker Credit. If you have not filed state income tax returns before, you still must file to get this credit.
