The Specialized Transportation for the Blind/Visually Impaired program is a non-emergency medical transportation service tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals with visual impairments. Operating as a public transit service, it offers convenient transportation via taxi, making it easier for older adults with visual challenges to reach their medical appointments, run errands, or attend social activities. To utilize this program, riders are required to book their rides in advance, with options for scheduling ranging from one day to a few days or even up to a week in advance.
Covering a wide range of payment methods, the program accepts various forms of payment, including insurance, vouchers, donations, and Medicaid payments. Additionally, the program has a structured pricing system based on income levels; individuals falling below a certain income threshold may be eligible for free rides, while others may be charged a flat fee or by the mile.
Boasting features like door-to-door transportation, assistance with packages, and the option for shared rides, this paratransit service ensures that older adults with visual impairments can travel safely, comfortably, and independently. Riders can expect reliable and accommodating service, whether they need a quick trip to the store or transportation to a scheduled medical appointment, with the convenience of on-demand scheduling and courteous drivers who can wait during errands or appointments.
