Provides rides for only the following purposes: necessary errands, medical appointments, grocery shopping, or social or recreational purposes. Also, you must meet at least one of these criteria: you are 60+ years old, or you have a disability. No membership is required.
The STAR Program-Assisted Transportation/Escort is a convenient and flexible transportation service designed for older adults to access non-emergency medical transportation. This program utilizes taxis as a mode of transport and is available as a public transit service. Riders can schedule rides in advance, with the option to book a private ride at least one day ahead. The program offers a range of payment options, including insurance, vouchers, donations, and Medicaid payments.
There is a membership fee as well as various flat fees based on the distance traveled, ensuring transparent and affordable pricing for users. The STAR Program also provides paratransit services, assisting riders with packages and bags, and allowing service animals on board. Additionally, the program offers door-to-door and curb-to-curb transportation, accommodating older adults with specific mobility needs.
For added convenience, riders can pay by cash, check, credit card, or pre-payment. The program's on-demand scheduling feature and shared ride options cater to diverse transportation needs, providing a reliable and inclusive service for older adults to maintain their independence and mobility.
