Shepherds Center of Charlotte: Senior Volunteer Transportation

Learn More About This Program

Please make sure to contact Shepherds Center of Charlotte: Senior Volunteer Transportation to confirm details of their transportation services.

Provides rides for only the following purposes: necessary errands, medical appointments, or grocery shopping. Also, you must meet at least one of these criteria: you have a disability. No membership is required.

The Volunteer Transportation Program offers door-to-door transportation for older adults who may have difficulty getting around. Volunteer drivers generously donate their time and vehicles to provide rides, making it easier for older adults to reach their destinations within the community. To cover the cost of gas and upkeep of the cars, a suggested donation of $15 round-trip is recommended, although no one is turned away for lack of funds. Rides must be scheduled in advance, typically a few days prior to the desired date of travel, to ensure availability of a volunteer driver. This program aims to make transportation accessible and affordable for older adults, especially those with mobility challenges who rely on assistance with getting to appointments, grocery shopping, social outings, or other essential trips. The pricing structure is based on a per-mile charge, allowing older adults to plan their trips accordingly and budget for transportation needs. By connecting older adults with dedicated volunteers for transportation services, this program not only assists in meeting their mobility requirements but also fosters a sense of community support. Older adults can rely on this program for safe and reliable transportation while maintaining their independence and staying connected with the resources and activities in their area.
