Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) is a service designed to provide transportation for non-emergency medical appointments for individuals who need assistance getting to and from their medical appointments. This program is particularly beneficial for individuals with limited mobility or those who do not have access to reliable transportation. NEMT accepts payment through insurance, including Medicaid, making it an affordable option for many older adults.
For MaineCare (Medicaid) recipients, the program is free of charge, while for others, the pricing is $25 for pickup plus $2 per mile. Riders are required to schedule their rides in advance, typically at least a few days beforehand, to ensure timely transportation. Payment for the service can be made by check, credit card, or cash, offering flexibility to riders. Transportation is provided via vans that are equipped to accommodate various mobility needs, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for all passengers. When booking a ride through NEMT, it is recommended to plan ahead and use the Rides In Advance service for added convenience.
