Railway Transportation is a public transit program offering convenient and reliable transportation for older adults. This program operates Metra suburban rail services with fares based on the distance traveled. Fares to downtown Chicago vary depending on the zone, ranging from $2.75 to $9.25 for a one-way trip. Older adults can benefit from discounted fares, approximately half off regular prices, by obtaining an RTA permit. In addition to single trip fares, Railway Transportation offers an unlimited weekend pass for $7.00, although weekend services may not be available on all routes. Payment for fares can be made using various methods including cash, check, and credit card. This program provides shared rides following fixed routes on a set schedule, ensuring a reliable and efficient transportation service for older adults. Riders are also permitted to travel with their service animals, and curb-to-curb transportation is available for added convenience. With its affordability, accessibility, and accommodating services, Railway Transportation is a valuable resource for older adults seeking to travel around the suburban Chicago area.
