The Rural Transportation Service is a public transit program that offers affordable transportation options for older adults living in and around Montpelier. For a suggested donation of $2.00, older adults aged 60 and above can enjoy one-way rides within an eight-mile radius from Montpelier. For rides outside of this radius but still within Bear Lake County, the suggested donation is $8.00.
Additionally, for individual trips beyond Bear Lake County, a fare of $4.00 plus $1.00 per mile applies. Those interested in this service can contact the Public Rural Transit (PRT) for more information on long-distance rides. The program provides transportation via bus or train and requires riders to schedule their trips in advance, typically a few days ahead. Payment is accepted in cash, and the service offers curb-to-curb transportation for added convenience.
