This program provides services to support independent living that can include counseling, written communication, and personal management. You can take part in this program if you are blind or have low vision. This program provides services that can include:

  • Daily living activities: Learn how to perform everyday tasks like preparing meals, shopping, identifying clothing and money, and telling time.
  • Counseling: Get counseling services from a professional to help you deal with your vision loss and build your self-confidence.
  • Written communication: Learn new ways of reading and writing using large print, Braille, and tape recorders. You can also learn about new technologies, such as talking computers.
  • Orientation and mobility: Learn how to get around safely using a cane, guide dog, or other method.
  • Personal management: Learn how to organize your mail, pay bills, and take part in recreational activities.

There are also special services offered to you if you are 55 years of age or older. This includes a 1-week seminar that teaches you independent living skills.
