Rehabilitation Services for the Blind (also called RSB) helps you with your daily activities in your home, community, or place of work. You can get services through the following programs:

  • Vocational Rehabilitation: This program helps you get a job or remain in your job by providing you with evaluation, training, and counseling.
  • Assistive Technology: This program gives information and resources for using computers if you are blind or have low vision. It provides needed assistive technology, including upgraded computer hardware and software.
  • Independent Living Rehabilitation: This program helps you live independently in your home and stay active in your community by teaching you homemaking and communication skills. It also teaches you different ways of completing your daily living activities.
  • Blindness Education, Screening, and Treatment (also called BEST) Program: The BEST Program helps you prevent blindness by providing you with eye exams and treatment if you do not have insurance to cover the costs of these services.
  • Prevention of Blindness: Diagnostic services and eye care are provided to medically indigent persons in order to prevent blindness. Vision screening and glaucoma testing clinics are provided for early detection of eye pathology that could lead to blindness.

RSB also provides assistance to children and older adults who have specific needs related to their age groups. For example, RSB can help you transition from high school to the workplace or college, and it can provide self-employment opportunities.
