Paratransit is a transportation program designed for individuals who need special assistance. Riders are required to schedule their rides at least one day in advance. The program offers transportation services via bus or train and provides curb-to-curb transportation, ensuring that older adults can safely and conveniently reach their destinations. For pricing, the program charges a flat fee for one-way ADA trips, with a fare of $3.50 per trip. Certified Personal Care Attendants can ride for free, while guest attendants are required to pay the full fare. Additionally, participants have the option to purchase ticket books at a discounted price, currently priced at $28 for a book of ten tickets. To make payment convenient, Paratransit accepts various forms of payment including checks, pre-payment, credit cards, and cash. Riders can schedule their ADA rides between one and fourteen days in advance, allowing for flexibility in planning their transportation needs. Overall, Paratransit aims to provide a reliable and inclusive transportation option for older adults who require special assistance.


Service Area

VTD provides ADA paratransit service in the Southern Naugatuck Valley area. The service is available within a ¾ mile parameter of the fixed route service, excluding express or commuter routes. The Valley Transit District (VTD) is composed of the municipalities of Ansonia, Derby, Seymour and Shelton. The approximate northern boundary of Valley Transit District in Seymour is close to Silver Lake, Briarwood Drive and Skokorat Road.The approximate eastern VTD boundary for Seymour, Ansonia, and Derby is close to Miller Road and Cogswheel Lane, Peat Swamp Reservoir, Rimmon Road, Ford Road, Baldwin Road, New Haven Avenue and the Housatonic River. The approximate southern VTD boundary for Shelton is close to Huntington Road and Route 8. The approximate western VTD boundary for Shelton, Derby, Ansonia and Seymour is close to Moosehill Road, Daniels Farm Road, East Village Park, Squantuck Road, Holbrook Road, and Great Hill Road.
