Paratransit is a community-based transportation program that offers a convenient and affordable way for older adults to get around. This program operates on a donation basis, with suggested donation amounts varying depending on the destination. For example, trips to Truckee, North Lake Tahoe, and Tahoe Forest Hospital Services on specific Thursdays are priced at $3.00 per one-way ride, while trips to Reno on the 2nd Wednesday of the month cost $8.00 each way. Additionally, journeys to Auburn, Grass Valley, Roseville, and Sacramento on the 3rd Wednesday of the month are priced at $10.00 per one-way trip.
To utilize this service, older adults are required to schedule their rides in advance, typically a few days before the intended travel date. Payments can be made via check or in cash, providing flexibility for riders. Paratransit offers shared rides, allowing multiple passengers to travel together, promoting a sense of community during the journey.
