Rural Transit is a versatile transportation program tailored to meet the needs of individuals residing in both urban and rural areas. This program offers non-emergency medical transportation services via taxis, making it convenient for older adults to travel to their medical appointments or run essential errands. With a focus on affordability and accessibility, Rural Transit operates in designated urban areas such as Decatur, Hartselle, and Trinity, where one-way trips are conveniently priced at $2.
For those residing in rural areas, the program ensures that transportation remains within reach by charging $2 for every 5 miles traveled. No one-way trip exceeds $10, providing a budget-friendly option for older adults living in remote communities. Additionally, Rural Transit considers the financial constraints of its riders by accepting various payment methods, including insurance, vouchers, donations, and Medicaid payments.
As a paratransit program, Rural Transit goes the extra mile to cater to older adults' needs, offering door-to-door and curb-to-curb transportation services. Riders can rest assured that they can bring their service animals on board. With the flexibility of on-demand scheduling and shared rides, this program aims to enhance older adults' mobility and independence, ensuring they can access transportation services when needed most.
